PPSMI
Why people still object PPSMI? PPSMI bukan
bertujuan untuk mempertingkatkan kemahiran Bahasa Inggeris pelajar
semata. Well, you may see it that way. But, you are actually missing the
whole point. Why the hell would we study math and science in English in
order to increase student's English efficiency? Duh.
The main point is: technology, science and engineering. To fully understand objective behind
this idea, we need to go back to the history; Dulu, ketika kegemilangan
empayar Islam, benda yang orang barat buat adalah tak lain tak bukan
pergi ke Tanah Arab untuk menuntut ilmu. Remember this story?
Menuntut ilmu tu satu perkara. But bear in mind that they speak
different language. And of course the Muslims (who is the
creator/founder of the knowledge) write notes and books in Arabic. So,
the european had no choice but to study Arabic as well.
Yes, this is the basic idea behind PPSMI.
The problem occurs when the PHD & Masters students in this country
starts to do research. Since the world had turned upside down (the
european currently are the creator & founder of the knowledge), our
researchers had to refer to the journal or technical paper written in
English. So, dari sekolah rendah, universiti, sampai master belajar term
Melayu, tiba-tiba kena refer journal dengan term English. Tak ke gila?
Ini term sains dan teknologi, bukan term sastera.
Jadi, purpose
yang paling utama adalah untuk mengatasi masalah bahasa yang dihadapi
oleh kita punya cerdik pandai. Untuk faham satu konsep tu dah satu
masalah, tak faham term dan bahasa tu lagi satu masalah. Kita perlu
belajar dari sejarah bukan?
Untuk keluar dari status dunia
ketiga, PPSMI bagi aku adalah kewajipan. Jangan bermimpi untuk mencipta
kalau kita sibuk dengan ego dan semangat nasionalisma yang tak
bertempat. And again, akhirnya sebab bacul pada undi, kerajaan kita
mansuhkan PPSMI. Undi lebih penting dari matlamat.
Dan pembangkang? Membangkang segalanya.
